Do What You Love. Pursue Your Dreams. Live Life on Your Terms. However, there’s still something that is keeping Entrepreneurs from Reaching Their Real Goals. In this article, I talk about how a very common Executive Leadership mindset, to “Get The Job Done" is causing Entrepreneurs to be a lot more miserable and is causing them to have the wrong view of what they do.

In my experience of Freelancing as a Corporate Communications Manager, I’ve met many clients who are Brand New Business Owners. In my time talking with all of them, I sensed the things they desired deep down in their hearts. They dream of Making a Good Living Doing What They Love and Living Life on their Terms.

However, Starting a Business means catching the plague of Financial Burdens & Concerns; Rent, Taxes, Bills, Employees, and whatnot.

And just like that, Aspiring Entrepreneurs go from being Dreamy Idealists — having a goal of living their best life, to doing whatever it takes to “Get the Job Done”.

As I watched some of my clients come and go, I couldn’t help but think to myself, ‘Getting the job done? That’s a dangerous mindset for an Entrepreneur’. Here are some reasons why.

The “Get The Job Done” Mindset is an Employee’s Mindset.

One of the main problems that Entrepreneurs solve, is that of Employment. They’re the ones creating jobs and giving them to the unemployed people.

The Entrepreneur works on the Business, not for the Business. Entrepreneurs start a business so that it could work for them.

Having someone of an Employees’ mindset create a job is absolutely impossible, unless there’s somebody thinking from a higher level and working on the business.

Remember Entrepreneurs, you’re not supposed to work for your Business. Your Business is supposed to work for you. The moment you feel like you need to get the job done, you need to stop whatever you’re doing, learn different aspects of your business and innovate if things aren’t working.

I spoke with a potential client the other day about how I could help to fix and improve his WIX website. He spoke as though he knew how to craft the best website possible for his company and he just needed somebody to add in code and complete his agenda.

However, as I was troubleshooting as a third party, I asked him questions to understand his business, as well as the problem he was asking me to help him to solve, not just to get the job done for the sake of doing so.

After some questioning, getting data, and an understanding of his business model, I told him that the problem he brought up regarding his website had very little to do with what he thought it was, but it was rather, about clarifying the services he provides, and as far as we’re both concerned, there isn’t any coding required to solve that problem on WIX.

Afterward, he told me, “it’s fine, I’ll get somebody else to do what I’m trying to do. I’m just trying to get this thing done because I already did the website up as such.” I offered him later on, that if he ever needed clarity on his website, he could just reach back out to me again.

The moment an Entrepreneur is resistant to change is the same moment he/she goes on the journey out of Entrepreneurship.

An Entrepreneur seeks to understand the problems that they’re really setting out to solve and the people they’re trying to serve as a result. If things don’t go to plan, Innovate! A “Get the Job Done” mindset needs to be replaced with another one that begs, “What’s the Real Problem Here?”

The “Get The Job Done” Mindset doesn’t exist in Entrepreneurship.

Since when was Entrepreneurship about having a job? Don’t get it wrong, Entrepreneurs are some of the busiest people in the world, but they’re working on solving higher-level problems that only their Business could solve.

An Entrepreneur’s work never ends. It only continues until the Business runs on it’s own without any supervision and innovation, but that’s also unlikely.

The Entrepreneur Crafts Solutions that are going to Perform at their Full Functionalities in their Business’ Favor, and that’s not a job done, it’s simply making sure the business continues doing its job for them and if things aren’t looking good, learn your business and innovate!

My point is this, People are getting into Entrepreneurship for the Wrong Reasons.

The goal of Entrepreneurship isn’t to “Get the Job Done”, neither is it to Make a Good Living Doing What You Love & to Live Life on Your Own Terms.

If that was true, even some Employees could do it better on their own paths, getting their respective jobs done.

The Goal of Entrepreneurship is to never let your business stop working for you, and to let it take care of the life you want; your family, the things that matter more to you, and for it to continue working for the generations after you.

Know Your Role. Know Your Impact. Innovate Constantly. Propel Your Business Forward, as well as whoever’s working in it.

Till Next Time :)
