I talk too much. At least, that’s what people say about me.

Fellow talk-too-much-ers, whether we love sharing all the relevant knowledge we have about whatever topic may be brought up, or if we just say whatever comes to our minds, or if we’re just being taken over by a passion for whatever cause is on our hearts, people say we talk too much.

What people don’t see is all the value, perspectives & knowledge that we could bring into an information-rich, time-poor conversation, but whether we like it or not, not everybody has the luxury of time to listen to all of our input, and they oftentimes cut us off, because the conversations will turn into monologues if we don’t stop.

Scenarios like the above may have caused us to feel rejected or second-guess our abilities to communicate, however, those are not the right ways to interpret what has happened, they’re simply indicators — that we’d make amazing writers, honestly.

Allow me to submit the following points for your consideration, and hopefully, being a writer could be something you’ll work on shortly.

Writing about Certain Topics can Position You as an Expert.

You might realize, many times when authors come up with certain studies, papers, articles, or books, they mostly get interviewed?

The media would mostly approach them, just to talk about what they’ve written.

The reason for that is when someone’s work or opinion has been published, it somehow gets attention and drives feedback from the readers.

It doesn’t mean that you’ll get nothing but good feedback, but you’ll be starting multiple conversations around your topics.

Here’s the best part, you’ll never end up talking too much, because this time, you’re accountable for what you’ve written, and people want to hear from you.

That leads to my next point, which is,

Writing Starts All Kinds of Conversations.

When you articulate a whole chunk of text, there’ll eventually be something you’ve written that will seem profound to your readers.

Afterwards, they’d probably want to share their knowledge, experience, and questions, so that they can continue hearing your views on them.

Publishing our work basically means what we write is completely open to interpretation. That results in having simple, difficult, happy, sad, educational & argumentative conversations of great value.

And honestly, those conversations wouldn’t have happened if writers never existed.

Writing Leaves Room for us to Refine Our Points & Reasoning.

As said before, people are likely to have opinions on your book; they may come across as questions, statements, or disagreements backed by other sources.

However, what we need to be sure of before we construct all possible arguments, is to close any loopholes in our writing and to evaluate the Research we have done.

If you always have something to say, it would be a whole bunch of useless noise that adds absolutely no value if it’s not being rationalized or proven.

When we write something, our thoughts, feelings, experiences, and dreams aren’t enough to validate the credibility of our writings. They need to be proven to be true through the sources we reference.

Once you’ve Written & Published something, it cuts short the time you spend in your conversations.

I opened the article proposing that the reason why talking too much is a problem. That’s because we are full of information but always lacking in time.

However, here’s why you’ll save a whole bunch of time on your end of many conversations,

Imagine if you’ve already published something you’ve written, all you need to do is to refer people to your articles/books/papers/studies and your work will do the talking for you. Unless, an elaboration is otherwise required.

Isn’t it amazing that you can talk to people and add value to them without having every single thing we know come from our mouths?

We don’t need to verbalize everything we know. Writing can do that for us.

Career Aspects of Being A Writer.

Writing is an essential skill to have because not everything can be communicated verbally or visually, so it’d be necessary to learn to articulate ourselves effectively through the written word.

As a writer, here are some ways to monetize your work or gain exposure to the writing:

  • Publish a Fiction/Non-Fiction Book.
  • Write Articles on Medium or Feature Articles for Publications.
  • Write Blog Content for Lead Generation, Content Marketing & Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Purposes.
  • Take a Master’s or Doctorate Degree in a subject of interest & write Theses, which can eventually turn into books and be published.

There are other paths, but all of the above would work if you intend to go into the writing field.

Anyways, talking too much can never be a bad thing, only if you let your realizations serve as an invitation to an opportunity, to let your weakness become a strength, and to change the way you come across in conversations for the better.

Until Next Time :)
